Vibe³C: Outside '09
Commissioned by Cuckoo Farm Studios, Vibe³C is a continuation of the artists work around found sounds and feel sounds. Their previous commissioned work, Vibe³ (Vibe Cube), is a sound installation incorporating collected, donated, and archived sounds from Basildon, Harlow and Colchester, that express the “spirit of place”. This work was developed over a year and is a highly finished object using specialised technology and incorporating custom built software.
Vibe³C enables the artists to draw on techniques developed through the original Vibe Cube but refract them through the principles of earlier works like AWSoM , drawing on recycled and 'low' technologies, installed and experienced outside, away from conventional gallery settings. Vibe³C converts the software to run with recordings from the Colchester area only, through simplified equipment and a garden composting bin transformed into a resonant speaker. This is placed in the landscape as a folly, hidden by the viewer overlooking what appears to be a common garden container. Maintaining the 'feelsound' approach, Vibe³C mixes and loops 100 minutes of sounds from the Colchester area. They range from a 1987 interview with an employee at the Trebor factory to a bucket blowing around in garages behind Harrison Road, clocks being wound up at Tymperly's museum to a 1906 recording of a poem recited by Charles Benham, local journalist and author.

Feelsound
This is the artists third piece of work to explore 'feelsound', through the medium of vibrations. Robinson, who is deaf, relies on these tactile aspects of sound to develop her work, enhanced by the use of technologies incorporated in these pieces. Bowditch meanwhile, is interested in places and the sounds that are attached to them. By taking the sounds away from their point of origin, and placing them in a different context, other senses come into play to create an 'image' of what that place might be like. Feelsound gives both artists a new way to interpret the world around them.
